I Am Me Once More Analysis Final Draft

Enlightenment to the Brain

The first time I found this poem "I Am Me Once More" by Zee Avi is already 4 years ago. I was on the highway 1 in California. I turned on the radio then this poem came out. My brother-in-law was driving on my left side and the pacific ocean was on my right side. I was watching the reflection of the sunshine on the waves and seagulls on the coastline. The view of Southern California and this poem really made me fall in deep thought. The poem shows us a story that the speaker got betrayed in a relationship with a person who used to be close to the speaker. The speaker realized the reality of it and finally decided to grow up. The poem made me feel I need to grow up and make my own decisions. I felt like I got enlightened, a whole new world rushed my brain. "I Am Me Once More" shows that the speaker finally understands the cruelty of society.

The speaker got hurt in a relationship with a person who was really close to the speaker. All the things the person did make the speaker grow up and understand the reality of it. Here is a quote I found to prove my argument. The quote "But I should thank you for taking my blindfold off now" shows that the speaker got hurt in a relationship, meanwhile, she said "thank you" to the person who ruined their relationship. "Thank you" here shows that the speaker already made her mind clear about the whole situation. "Blindfold" in this quote means the speaker was childish and innocent. The word "taking" in this line represents how the person hurts the speaker. This quote perfectly shows that the person who hurts the speaker makes the speaker finally see the reality of the world and society.

The speaker realized that there is nobody can trust other than herself. Here is a quote I found to prove my statement. The quote "I need no one but myself" shows that after she got hurt in the relationship, she finally understood that there is nobody the speaker could trust. The "no one" how the person hurts the speaker made the speaker doesn't want to trust anyone in the world. The speaker is strong enough to face anything and she doesn't want to get dragged in a disaster anymore. This quote perfectly reflects that the speaker finally understands the cruelty of society, and she must trust herself.

After the speaker got hurt in the relationship, the speaker finally trying to stand up and hit back. The quote "And I take pride in being the one that said goodbye" shows that the speaker got betrayed in the relationship, so this time the speaker wants to be the one that says goodbye. The word "pride" is a really powerful word in this situation, that reflects that the speaker was always being self-abased, and now the speaker finally feels pride for herself. The word "goodbye" represents that the speakers want to say goodbye to the old her who trusted the wrong person and not strong enough. She wants to welcome the new her to this world. This quote also shows that after all these situations, the speaker finally becomes a smart person who sees the reality of people and society. It also shows that the speaker becomes stronger that could fight back.

"I Am Me Once More" is a really strong and emotional poem. The poem gives readers so many mental supports and encouraging. Everyone in the world needs to grow up, the outside world isn't like our home that you can do anything you want. There are so many different people and different situations drag you down, but you always need to trust yourself. The poet tells us that even though everyone in this world is betraying you, you are still a strong person that can handle any situation.
