The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Review

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Review

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was written by Mark Haddon in 2003. I watched this play in the black box on November 16th. It was such a new experience for me since I never watched a play in the black box before. This play was really good and impressive to me. The actors performed so well and realistic.

This play is basically talking about the story of a teenage boy. Christopher is a boy who has autism. He got caught in Mrs.Shear’s garden with a died dog. People thought he killed the dog. His dad lied to him that his mother is dead since she cheated on his dad. He finally knew that his dad killed the dog and his mother did not die. At the end of the play, he got along with his father and his mother started to live with them again.

The setting of the stage was pretty simple, but it was just perfect. The blue light on the floor gave audiences an idea of the stage’s range. Things outside the blue light are not part of the play, things inside the blue light are part of the play. This light really helped audiences know which part is important and which part is not. I also love Mrs. Alexander’s outfit. She has a white wig and an old fashion sweater. This outfit perfectly gave audiences an idea of her age and personality. This outfit made Mrs. Alexander a really kind person since this outfit is more like a “grandma outfit”.

The first scene is definitely my favorite scene and also the most important scene in the whole play. I love how the actress of Christopher screamed when the policeman was trying to touch him. Some people might think that this would be too exaggerated, but I think this is pretty realistic and also easy to get audiences into the scene. The first scene started the whole story and gave audiences the basic idea of who Christopher is and what his personality is like, that’s why I think the first scene is the most important scene in this play. The last scene is also my favorite scene. I love how Christopher repeats “Does that mean I can do anything” three times with different tones. This part of the scene reflects that after all these things happened to him, Christopher starts to become confident and understand he is brave enough to do anything he wants to do. He finally changed from a teenage boy to a really mature man.

All in all, I really like this play and the story. The actors in this play gave us the best version of the story and gave us the image of what happened. The stage crew is also very good since everything in this play is organized and in control. After watching this play, I learned that even a boy has autism can be such a brave person and do these things, then I should be able to do anything I want to do. I need to be brave and hardworking on things. I love this play and the performers.
